WEAVES TYPES: SERGE CLOTH, CANVAS AND SATEEN WEAVE
13/07/2016
Speaking about weave in textile industry is something connected with the creation of fabrics and textiles; a weave is their starting point: a weave is the warp and weft yarns interweaving till we obtain the ultimate fabric.
There are several types of waves, the most important we want to list here are called: serge cloth, canvas and sateen weave.
SATEEN WEAVE
This is the kind of weave where there is a higher correspondence between warp and weft than the other types of weaves.
All fabrics with a sateen weave are smooth and delicate. On their straight ground are bright while on their reverse ground are opaque.
Damask fabrics such as Aurea from Iris Collection is made with a sateen weave.
CANVAS
It is the simplest weave among the other existing types. The ratio between warp and weft is 1:1, that’s to say every two stitches, the scheme remains the same forever.
The canvas weave design is quite similar to draughts board and it’s identical on both straight and reverse grounds.
Canvas weave fabrics are very robust just like Pascarosa from Trame di Puglia Collection.
Chiffon, canvas and petersham/grosgrain are canvas weave fabrics.
SERGE CLOTH WEAVE
It is characterized by a transverse design structure and its straight and reverse grounds seems to be mutual and different at the same time.
These kind of fabrics are particularly flexible and strong and among all of these kinds the most popular are: denim, twill (4 layered serge cloth), pied de poule, tartan, tweed, piqué or marcella and gabardine.
Among all our fabrics, an example of serge cloth weave is represented by article Cielo v. 5-6 from Trame di Puglia Collection.
