They were born as essential goods, and later in order to donate a good esthetic look they acquired some decorative elements thus becoming some true works of art. Let’s find out together the several textile Museums in Italy, focusing our attention on the most popular ones.
UPHOLSTERY MUSEUM, BOLOGNA. It is a true milestone in Italian cultural panorama, it collects precious textiles such as lampas, damascus, brocades, velvet, brocatelles, taffetas, lisères and some other canvas as well as embroideries, dresses and costumes made with some textiles coming from other different manufacturing areas, Asia above all.
LINEA PIU’ HISTORICAL ARCHIVES, CAMPI BISENZIO – FIRENZE. It’s like a milestone in textile world, made with the support of the main fashion ateliers such as Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Ferragamo, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Cavalli, Valentino . This museum collects 5000 single yarns, almost 40000 knitted canvas and 1600 among tapestries, fashion accessories, furnishings and clothes.
MUSEO DELLA PAGLIA E DELL’INTRECCIO (STRAW and BRAIDS MUSEUM), SIGNA – FIRENZE. A wonderful museum where is possible to trace back the history of one of the first forms of weaving, with all the developments it experimented in time starting from the various types of straw, sheaf of wheat, braids, ornaments and laces.
MUSEO DEI COLORI NATURALI,( natural colors museum) LAMOLI DI BORGO PACE - PESARO E URBINO. This museum puts us in an old dimension surpassed by synthetic colors: the natural color dye one.
MUSEO DEL TESSUTO (FABRICS MUSEUM), PRATO. It is one of the most active and known Italian textile museums expression of the fabric city like Prato is considered. It is divided in six sections from old fabrics to contemporary one.
MUSEO DELLE TRADIZIONI POPOLARI, CASALABATE AND MUSEO DELLA CIVILITA’ CONTADINA (POPULAR TRADITIONS MUSEUM), NARDO’- LECCE. In the first one is reproduced the typical Salento people’s house with the “ looms room” where women weaved both ordinary fabrics and the ones for their daughters dowries. In the second one is collected an impressive number of gears and furnishings connected with textile culture and with the wool and cotton spinning operations.
