CHEMICAL FABRICS: SYNTHETIC AND ARTIFICIAL VARIANTS
02/08/2016
Chemical fabrics also called synthetic fibers are the result of an industrial chemical processing made by a well trained staff.
Chemical fabrics are divided into artificial fibers derivative and synthetic fibers derivative.
ARTIFICIAL FIBERS
The increasing demand for refined not expensive textiles inspired some French chemists in their research for a new fiber. In the last decades of the 19th century, starting from cellulose processing they developed a new fiber which they called artificial silk due to its great brightness. That was what we call now viscose.
The difference between natural silk and viscose lies on viscose higher resistance to warmth but you can easily remove stains from both of them.
Our fabric Fatalefrom The Velvet Collection was made with a 59% viscose fiber, 24% cotton and lastly a 17% polyester. The Velvet fabric Fatale is super bright.
All kind of artificial fibers are made with natural products such as cellulose and proteins such as acetate and cupro.
SYNTHETIC FIBERS
Synthetic fibers are a more recent invention, they are the result of petroleum/oil chemical processing. This process creates some thin fibers.
The introduction of synthetic fibers brought several advantages. These fibers have got excellent mechanical properties. They are also highly resistant to outward factors such as mold, moths and weather conditions.
Nylon, polyester and acrylic are synthetic fibers.
Polyester is a robust and flexible fiber, it has an excellent resilience and it burns very slowly.
Our window treatment curtain Cucciolaio from Colette Collection is made of 100% polyester and due to its typical laser cut style is very trendy and decorative.
