WHEN FABRIC DOESN’T UPHOLSTER BUT IT IS THE ARMCHAIR ITSELF
16/05/2013
Many of you probably noticed it at Salone del mobile. It’s about Kenny, the bizarre theater chair designed and suggested by an Israeli creative couple RAW-EDGES. What’s special? So simple: The seat is made up of one single bent and sewn fabric remnant. Yes, it’s not a mistake! Fabric doesn’t upholsters the chair. The fabric is the chair itself! The originality of this project resides in the absence of the structure itself. The two creative talents wanted to honor the producing company of a very famous fabric, Hallingdal, designed in 1965 by Nanna Ditzel. The seat taking advantage from the consistency and firmness of the cloth can be suggested as a sack that, folded up, is suitable for receiving someone’s human body. An unusual project conceived in order to underline the beauty and versatility of raw materials: cloths.
We, at CTA, really appreciate this creation and the only thing we can do is to praise these two creative talents.
