INTERVIEWS: WHAT’S NICE IN DESIGN?
17/04/2013
When we talk about design we mean something refined, nice. But what do we mean by “beautiful” ? we asked this question to three famous Italian designers, revealing how beautiful is a subjective concept and it may change depending on the people!
Kristian byrge ,Muuto Ceo : “A product appearance is one of the many essential aspects of a great sketch. To me, this is very important both in the short and in the long term. When something is immediately beautiful it captures the observer: it’s the key factor useful to establish an emotional connection with the person that looks at the project for the first time. It’s fundamental for a starting interest. In the long term, a pleasant appearance donate a daily harmony in the setting where the product is as well as increasing the probability that it didn’t become obsolete”
POUL MADSEN, Norman Copenhagen Ceo point of view: “ It depends on the product. If I like it or not. I like it when it is simple and original at the same time. Beauty can reside in the material, in the proportions, in the color mixture or simply in something different or unique in it. When we look at new projects, we have a very intuitive perspective towards products. If we are struck from what we look at it means that we are interested in it”.
Before proving himself as emerging talent, French designer, IONNA VAUTRIN was Bourouillec student. Here it is her opinion: “Appearance in design is a very hard job: it’s a very subjective concept. Becoming famous with a worldwide appreciation for a product is almost uncommon. A nice object is familiar, clear, handy and unique at the same time. It requires quality in designing and manufacturing. An equation between people and industry needs”.
