COTTON, LINEN OR SILK?
21/10/2015
Bedsheets
are an important investment for our skin and our daily rest or sleep.
The most
used natural fibers are cotton, linen or silk. They are extracted from natural
materials and processed through mechanical tools without altering their
original structure.
Cotton is
light, soft, absorbent and very resistant to washings and high temperatures. It
is a great heath conductor so it is highly recommended when it’s hot because it
helps keeping our body cool and aired.
Cotton
fiber is not as robust as linen fiber, it is not that elastic. It’s very
resistant and even if we use it so bad it is always a performing fiber. Cotton
can experience some tears but it’s always a strong fiber. Also, it has inferior
costs than linen and silk.
Linen is a
large and rough weaved fiber so that it is like it massages skin. It is the
most hypoallergenic fiber “par
excellance”.
Linen is a more breathable fiber than cotton; it is
very fresh because it has got a high heat scattering capacity.
In order to
get new kind of fabrics , linen fibers are often mixed with cotton, silk,
viscose and polyester. They can be washed several times without altering, on
the contrary it acquires more and more softness.
Among the animal
fibers, silk is the softest of all. Its structure is very similar to human hair
and that is why it has been used for centuries as a medical material for
suture. Very enjoyable to our touch, silk is the most suitable fiber for our
skins, plus its elasticity donates a particular resistance to this fabric.
This fiber
presents an excellent heat insulation, it is very breathable but it is very
expensive and delicate when we have to wash it. It is very cool and fresh in
summer days and warm in winter.
