A REFINED AND DETERMINED FABRIC
21/10/2015
Edgar Degas was one among the most original and innovative Impressionist painters.
His paintings give voice to characters’ most introspective part thus making these works of art some true Realism masterpieces.
Degas’ images unlikely use bright and lively colors; this artist rather loves using warm and quiet tones thus donating a sharp formal solidity/ robustness. With this purpose in mind the fabric named after the artist was born.
Extremely original and refined, thanks to some delicate nuances it is able to represent an elegant but also daring soul. A damask decoration in stronger tones is leant on a ground. The window treatment curtain is embellished with an embossed decoration consisting of thin cords running along the warp’s direction. It underlines Degas’ fabric strong personality and its great desire to be noticed in the setting where it is placed. Two are the cloths used for this kind of window treatment curtains: jacquard and canneté chenille (65% viscose , 25% polyester and 10% cotton).
The best subjects and themes Degas chose to represent in his paintings were ballerinas and theatre scenes which are certainly symbols of great aesthetic force. The footstool, too, seems to recall to our mind the image of a precious seat, a sumptuous element put into a palace or a museum, that is to say locations connected with the idea of greatness and refinement’s mystical touch.
